State Police Best Option To Tackle Security Gaps – Dare

The former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication, Dr. Sunday Dare, has expressed support for the establishment of state police, describing it as a practical solution to Nigeria’s growing security challenges.

Hotnews gathered that speaking during an interview on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On Podcast, Dr. Dare said the country’s current security architecture has significant gaps that can be addressed through devolution of policing powers to the states.

He dismissed concerns that state governors would misuse state police, insisting that constitutional safeguards and the rule of law would prevent abuse of such powers.

Dr. Dare also defended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, over criticisms of her advice encouraging women to engage in small-scale businesses.

According to him, the First Lady was promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance, noting that many successful business leaders, including Aliko Dangote, started from humble beginnings.

On the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, Dr. Dare dismissed claims that the administration sees the Presidential candidate of the NDC, Mr. Peter Obi, as a threat.

He maintained that the Tinubu administration remains confident because of its performance, reforms and policies, saying the government has a verifiable record of achievements to present to Nigerians.
