Why Is The Prosperity Government Led By Gov. Diri Silent About The N28B Local Government Funds

Bayelsa state treasury has become a cash and carry company for the very few elites in the corridor of power. The state tax payers money has become a money-making tree for few set of people to enrich themselves and families at the detriment of the populace.

Recently, President Buhari accused Governors of diverting funds meant for Local Governments Development, which many Governors from the South-South serving under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), such as Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and others had openly requested the President to mention names of Governors embezzling local government funds.

Little did Bayelsans realized that the Bayelsa State Government under the leadership of Governor Douye Diri has diverted the local government funds for self enrichment and wealth creation at the detriment of the populace.

The local government council elections, which the state electoral body earlier announced for the conduct of the elections, suddenly went mute for over eight months now, simply because the failed governor has diverted the funds, since local government councils are runned by civil servants.

It’s now obvious that, the reason for not appointing care-taker committee to manage local government council funds, or rather conduct the local government council elections, due to lack of funds to conduct the elections.

The many sins of the unplanned Supreme Court Governor and the cash and carry attitude is seen by all well-meaning Bayelsan, which is very obvious to the blind, deaf and dumb in the past few years.

The huge amount of money the governor has diverted to enrich himself and some of his political associates are becoming too unbearable and worrisome for the populace to keep silent about it, which there is a great need for necessary actions to be taken.

We challenge the Governor Douye Diri to call on President Buhari to disclose Governors diverting Local Government Funds, if he is not among those Governors diverting local government funds in their respective States.
