Gov Diri To Procure Prepaid Meters 4 Transparent Billing
The Bayelsa State Government has strengthened its partnership with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to ensure efficient electricity distribution across the state, as Governor Douye Diri announced plans to procure prepaid meters for residents.
Hotnews reports that Governor Diri made the announcement during a state executive council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa.
According to the Governor, the initiative is aimed at promoting transparent and accurate billing for electricity supplied from the state’s 60-megawatt gas turbine to Yenagoa and surrounding communities.
The Governor explained that the decision followed concerns expressed by residents over electricity billing, noting that the introduction of prepaid meters would guarantee that consumers pay only for the power they use.
He clarified that while the Bayelsa State Government owns the gas turbine that generates electricity, the distribution network is managed by PHEDC under a partnership arrangement designed to ensure effective power supply across the state.
Governor Diri also appealed to residents who are yet to be connected to the electricity network to remain patient, assuring them that government is working to expand power infrastructure and extend electricity to every part of Bayelsa State.
