Diri Assures National Parole Board Of Support On Welfare
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, alongside his deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, on Tuesday hosted members of the National Parole Board, Bayelsa State Chapter, at Government House, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.
Hotnews gathered that the delegation, led by retired Justice Margaret Akpomiemie, visited the governor to seek the state government’s partnership and support in the areas of clemency, inmate welfare, and infrastructural development at the correctional centre.
Governor Diri commended the board for its commitment and selfless service, describing its members as performing an invaluable duty to both the state and the nation.
The Governor stated that his administration would carefully consider the exercise of the prerogative of mercy for deserving inmates, stressing that only genuinely reformed persons who can positively contribute to society would benefit.
He also assured the board that the state government would examine its requests and provide assistance where necessary, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to justice, rehabilitation, and public safety.
