Diri Hosts FUO Management, Assures Continuous Support
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Monday received the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Otuoke, Professor Promise Mebine, alongside members of the university’s management team at Government House, Yenagoa, the state capital.
Hotnews reports that the visit was aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between the Bayelsa State Government and the university, as well as discussing areas of mutual partnership and institutional development.
Governor Diri expressed pride in the growth of higher education in Bayelsa, noting that the state now boasts several federal and state-owned universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, a significant improvement from the situation at the state’s creation.
He attributed the progress to the commitment of past and present leaders in addressing the educational challenges inherited from the early years of Bayelsa’s existence.
Responding to the concerns presented by the university management, the Governor assured them of his administration’s support, stating that the state government would assist in areas within its capacity and engage the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders to address issues beyond the state’s jurisdiction.
“We are happy today that we have federal and state higher educational institutions in our state. This reflects the efforts of past leadership in correcting the educational backwardness we experienced when Bayelsa was created.
“For the challenges you have brought to our knowledge, we will do the ones we can assist and also interface with the Minister of Education and other stakeholders to ensure some of your challenges are resolved,” Governor Diri said.
