Gov. Diri Inaugurates Bayelsa Advisory Council, Urge Unity

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Monday inaugurated the State Advisory Council, describing it as an inclusive platform for harnessing the experience and wisdom of citizens across political divides to advance the development of the state.

Hotnews reports that Governor Diri explained that upon assumption of office in 2020, he inherited party-based local government caucuses but reviewed the arrangement and transformed it into an all-inclusive Advisory Council with membership cutting across political parties.

He said the initiative was borne out of his belief that no individual, regardless of position, could have all the answers required to govern effectively.

The Governor stressed the need to tap into the experience and knowledge of seasoned Bayelsans, noting that collective wisdom remained essential to achieving sustainable peace and development.

According to him, “When I came in as governor, we had local government caucuses but we reviewed it and decided to change the name to Advisory Council.

“What we are doing here is not only for politics as membership cuts across political parties. They are people that have what it takes to advise government. We need the advice of experienced citizens.

“There are no limitations as they can advise on everything. I believe that when we put our heads together it is always better than one head.”

Governor Diri charged members of the council to provide constructive advice that would help streamline governance and promote development across all levels of the state.

He further announced that members of the National and State Assemblies from Bayelsa, members of the State Executive Council, party working committee members, local government council chairmen and other relevant stakeholders would serve as statutory members of the council.

Responding on behalf of the council, former Deputy Governor, Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, thanked Governor Diri for finding the members worthy of the responsibility.

Ebebi described the governor’s decision to establish the Advisory Council as a demonstration of humility and recognition of the value of collective experience, assuring that members were ready to contribute their best towards the progress of Bayelsa State.
