NDC Stalwart Leads Mass Defection To APC In Bayelsa

A prominent stalwart of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Fyneman Wilson, has officially resigned his membership of the party, and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside his son, Hon. Felix Wilson, and supporters.

Hotnews reports that the official defection ceremony held on Monday at Golden Tulip, Government House, Yenagoa, was attended by party leaders and government officials to receive the new APC members into the ruling party.

Speaking during the event, Chief Wilson, a former member of the old Rivers State House of Assembly, explained that his decision to leave the NDC followed what he described as persistent injustice and a lack of internal democracy within the party.

According to him, the immediate trigger for his resignation was the alleged denial of the NDC ticket to his son, Hon. Felix Wilson, despite his commitment and contributions to the party. He accused the party’s national leadership of manipulating the process and sidelining deserving members.

Chief Wilson further alleged that the NDC had become a personal enterprise controlled by a single individual rather than a democratic political platform that promotes fairness, inclusiveness and equal opportunities for all members.

He said the prevailing situation made it impossible for committed party faithful to thrive, stressing that his decision to join the APC was informed by the need to identify with a political party that encourages internal democracy, justice and collective leadership.

Chief Wilson assured the APC leadership of his unwavering commitment and pledged to mobilize his supporters across the state to strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements.

He expressed confidence that the APC would continue to grow stronger through the addition of experienced politicians and grassroots mobilizers committed to the development of Bayelsa State and Nigeria.

Welcoming the defectors on behalf of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, described Chief Fyneman Wilson as a respected political leader with remarkable leadership qualities and years of valuable experience in public service.

Dr. Akpe commended Chief Wilson for taking what he described as a courageous and patriotic decision to align with the APC, assuring him and the other defectors that the party would provide them with equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to its growth and success.

He noted that the APC remains open to all progressive-minded individuals and reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Douye Diri’s administration to building a united and inclusive political family anchored on justice, peace and development.

The Deputy Governor urged the new members to remain steadfast and work together with existing party faithful to consolidate the gains of the APC across Bayelsa State.
