How. Diri Crippled Health, Education, Other Sectors In Three Years
By Comrade Preye Bagou
The Governor Douye Diri led Bayelsa State Government has consciously crippled health, education and other sectors in the State, by deliberately abandoning health and educational facilities in the State since assumption in office in February, 2020.
Governor Douye Diri since assumption in office as Governor of Bayelsa State, had deliberately abandoned health and educational facilities in the state, despite obtaining health and educational loans to improve both sectors in the state.
The two sectors (health and education) are very important sectors that needs effective functioning and proper management by taking proactive measures towards rendering quality services to the populace.
The Health Sector.
The health sector plays an important role in the lives of the populace, as a sector that addresses medical and mental issues of humans in different ramifications, which contributes to the economy and nation-building.
Public health facilities and teaching hospitals are in a dilapidated state, with poor services due to lack of adequate facilities to facilitate effective functioning of the facilities to render quality services to the populace.
Health facilities such as Bayelsa Diagnostic Center, Health Centres, Okolobiri Teaching Hospital, Referral General Hospital in Sagbama and Southern-Ijaw, and other health facilities had been abandoned for the past three years administration of Douye Diri.
The Educational Sector.
The educational sector plays an important in grooming and preparing younger generations to prepare themselves for a better society and nation-building.
Education is the foundation and genesis of socialization of any child, which build up the child in different areas of life, and the preparedness to face societal challenges while growing up to adulthood and beyond.
It’s an appalling and pathetic circumstance that Douye Diri who was a classroom teacher, and knows the importance of quality education would deliberately abandon the educational sector in his three years plus administration in the state.
The previous administration declared a state of emergency on the health and educational sector with the sole purpose of making life easier for the populace, targeted at the less privilege in the eight years administration.
The previous administration improved and transformed the health sector by building and rehabilitating health facilities in the state, with the construction of referral general hospitals in various local government areas across the state.
The previous administration also restructured and transformed the educational sector by making education free, with the rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools in various local government areas across the state.
Douye Diri who served under the previous administration, and was expected to further improve health and educational facilities in the state, deliberately abandoned health and educational facilities in the state.
Diri obtained a loan of N2.9 billion during the covid-19 pandemic in 2020, to improve health facilities in the state, ended up worsening the health situation in the state for the past three years plus administration.
The Governor Douye Diri led Bayelsa State Government has crippled health, education and other sectors for the past three years plus in the state, despite huge monthly faac allocations, loans, 13% oil derivation refunds, internally generated revenue etc.
